Running Back Derrius Guice Released From Washington's NFL Team After Incident of Domestic Violence

Derrius Guice, a 23 year old second round, 59th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft was released from the Washington Football Team today after learning he has been charged with three counts of assault and battery, one count of strangulation and one of destruction of property (Washington Post).


According to Kraig Troxell, who works for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, these assaults were all separate instances that occurred in the players' home with dates marking February 14, March 14, and April 17. The local authorities of where the victim resides only became aware of these events on July 22(USA Today) and began the investigation. Guice turned himself in Friday afternoon.


Only two hours after Guice was taken into the Loudoun County Detention Center, the NFL team was notified and automatically posted a statement announcing his release from the team.


The young NFL player’s time as a Washington team member was not all smooth sailing, tearinghis ACL in the first preseason game of his professional career,A hopeful next season turned into a torn meniscus in his opposite knee, causing him to miss eight games.



The minutes he did see in the big leagues were played well, a four-week long moment, but unfortunately followed a sprained ligament in his left knee in December of 2019 (Washington Post).


Only a few hours after he was taken into custody, Guice was released on a bond, though that does not affect the football team's decision to cut ties.
