SuperMan has Landed!: Cam Newton Signs 1-year Deal with Patriots.
Former Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has come to the hallowed halls of Foxboro. After his departure following the end of the 2019 season from the Panthers, the rumor mill began spinning that Newton may perhaps end up in a backup-mentor role to heir apparent Jarett Stidham.
Even with the Patriots having a veteran QB in Brian Hoyer on the roster, Belichick and the Kraft family felt that wasn’t enough.
Newton has seen his fair share of the Patriots over the years through preseason, regular season though he faced another Patriots nemesis in the Denver Broncos during his only Super Bowl appearance.
The deal, a 1 year heavily incentive laden contract, could net Newton a maximum of $7.5 million.
The former No. 1 overall pick has notched a pretty well off record of 71-59-1 while racking up 29,041 yards, 182 touchdowns and 108 interceptions.
More notable is Newton’s ability on the ground, he has rushed for 4,806 yards and 58 touchdowns, averaging about 5.1 yards per carry.
The 2010 Heisman Trophy winner will look to compete in what is now a 5 man QB brigade for the rights to replace the legendary 6-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady, who after 20 seasons departed with former Patriots wide-out Rob Gronkowski for Tampa Bay.
Details of this story are still developing, we will have updates as they become available from the Patriots and the NFL.
